Stunning crash near Milton, Ontario: Fri Jan 21, 2011 (video)

On Friday, January 21, 2011, a tracker trailer slide out of control and crashed into the lanes of on-coming traffic. According to police, several vehicles were damaged but there were no serious injuries. CTV reported:

According to the OPP around 8:15 a.m. an eastbound tractor-trailer veered across two lanes of traffic and hit the concrete center median.

The cab of the truck went over the median into the westbound lanes, while the trailer, which was carrying 30 tonnes of sand, stayed in the eastbound lanes.

Two eastbound and three westbound vehicles were struck in the crash. Another tractor-trailer was disabled after it hit debris from the collision.

Two lanes were closed in each direction immediately following the crash, causing a traffic backup as far as six kilometres in each direction.

The driver of the truck, a 48-year-old Brampton resident, was not injured.

All lanes were reopened by early afternoon.

What is absolutely stunning is that all this was captured by a dashboard mounted video camera of a car coming towards the crashing truck and I must say this driver has good reflexes and a lot of luck. He is in the left lane with another tracker trailer to his right. He first had to brake to let that truck get ahead of him before he could pull over to the right to get out of the way of the truck ploughing through the guardrail directly at him.

I'm the driver in this video ;) It's a VW Tiguan. The video is deceiving because I really saw the truck start to slide side-to-side ahead of time, at which time I braked pretty hard, allowing the truck to pass by me so I could get in behind it. Yes I felt as if I had good reflexes in this situation, but it was also advance anticipation.
