OMG: I'm sure my petrol cap was on this side

YouTube: I'm sure my petrol cap was on this side

As I sat at my computer and watched this for the first time, I was laughing out loud. It's hilarious. And to realise that in the end, the only reason the woman finally got it right was because another car pulled in and forced her to do something else. If not, she might still be doing the same mistake over and over.

In defence of the woman, some people have a problem with spatial recognition. In sympathy with the woman, I, too, have made silly mistakes that afterward, make me cringe with embarrassment. The solution was obvious, but I couldn't see it.

And as an added bonus, here's something I only learned in the spring of 2014. How could I have lived so long and not known this?

The gas gauge of modern cars has an arrow pointing to which side of the car the gas cap is located. Here are some samples:

On the left

On the right

On the left

FYI: In researching this, I ran across several people saying they know of cars where this is wrong. Design/manufacturing defect?

I've seen the clip circulating, but have not actually watched it until you posted it here.

I have trouble with cars I don't drive often, but telling myself "My side" or "Passenger side" usually resolves it.

The empty pointer thing is going to come in handy.
